Pictures from California

Well here they are, These were the high lights of the trip south, as always I try to find the beauty of the place I'm at and these pictures somehow only come close to the real beauty of this area...and the rest of the time was just work.

San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz
This was our 10 dollar tour of the bay, Considering the price of everything else there this was very reasonable and fun and cool. I never got to ride the cable cars but the boat was right up my alley, the only thing missing was a fishing pole.

Emmys birth place
...and heavy in morning fog, She'll feel right at home in the winter here.

Sunset Near San Rafael, Ca
This was so beautiful We had to pull over and watch. It was the end of a very hot day and the moisture was abundant. You can see it hang in the air. Clicking on the pictures will give you a better picture and more definition and detail.

Half Moon Bay Beach

This was a cool 75 degree respite from the 10 day long heat wave in California, I spent 2 days in it and though I was going to die! 104 and sweltering, It was humid too...So much for "Oh it's a dry heat".

The Golden Gate National Cemetery

This is a heart breaker to see and truly a overwhelming experience, It's like a sea of white, I said a prayer and paid Homage to all the Hero's that lay there. You feel so insignificant in that environment, It was an honor to be there. I'm glad we went.

It's A Girl!

Announcing the arrival of Emmy Lou
She's my Birthday present for many years to come I'll bet. But that's OK she's worth it!
She's 5 months, 4 pounds, and little toe licker. She picked up fetching almost immediately and has only piddled twice and that was on linoleum. It's almost like having a new born around the house except she sleeps through the night. She flew on the airplane really well and only got car sick once and that happened in Petco. They are used to that. Now she's a pro and me,
I'm a tired mom.
She has a play pen at my house and doesn't seem to mind it yet.

Everyone told me not to let her outside without someone watching her because the hawks would come and get her.(AS IF THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN) What happens yesterday, I take her out and here's two sharp shinned hawks sitting on the powerline in front of my house watching. They better keep their distance I'm pretty good with a shot gun! ...and they could be pretty dead. I have a right to protect my baby don't I?

Some summer time fun

"The Chubby Bunny game"

This game was recently brought to my attention and til then i'd never heard of it. I was sent some funny videos and laughed histerically while watching my son and his wife compete to see who could get the most marshmallows in their mouth.

The game and its variations, which are played by children in many age groups, is played as follows: You stuff your mouth with as many marshmallows as humanly possible and then attempt to speak. If the child is able to say the words, "chubby bunny," then the child puts another marshmallow into his or her mouth; those who are not able to speak are out of the game. In addition, the rules are very specific and players are not allowed to chew and/or swallow; if they do, they are disqualified. The winner is the child who can say "chubby bunny" with the highest number of marshmallows in his or her mouth. But be careful and don't choke!

My garden visitor

Today I was in my garden checking the lettuce and dead heading flowers. When all of a sudden a Gold finch flies up and lands on my shepherds hook not 2 feet from where I'm standing, I continue to work on my hanging flower basket and he just sits there and watches me. I could have reached up and touched him that's how close he was. He chirped a bit as if he was talking to me and then flew off.

So I go in and get my camera and wait to see him again, But no luck. Hmmmmm, Could he have been a messenger from above? Maybe...I loved my visit.

Three years ago on my Birthday, I was once again in the garden and the Mr. was doing something laborious for me and I was doing the supervising, Here came a gold finch and it landed on my shoulder, it was a little startling but I stood still, It was a female, she was so light I could barely feel her there but I said hey babe look at this, The Mr. looks up and can't believe his eyes she just sat there looking at him.
Now he felt at that point a little jealous and couldn't understand why they don't do that to him especially when he always fed them.

I did capture a winged visitor that seemed to like my Zinnia's.

They (Zinnia's) are known as the thoughts of absent family and friends flower and I plant them just for that reason to remind me of those I care about.

It's the season Blackberries are needed

Each year it has been getting increasingly harder to get enough blackberries to do my pie social, So this year I'm giving a call out to my people in my area that pick theirs that are not sprayed or contaminated by poisonous things, just natural.

If after you get what you need and have more left I'm looking for donations. I usually rinse the berries, and drain well and then put in quart bags and freeze. Himalayan berries are usually not commercially grown in our area (wild) and most that are, are called Marion berries.
But in my most humble opinion Himalayas are the best.
Let me know if you can help.

Tsunamis and Earthquakes

I am an earth mover-watcher...I find it fascinating watching the magnitudes of earthquakes and seeing what will cause a tsunami or not and trying to see triggers for our area.

Wow! this morning my inbox was full of these alerts and they are huge. If it were here I'm afraid we'd either be under water or have ocean front property.
Its sad to see so many lose lives when there is ways to alert people now and it still has not reached these areas.
