The Great Pumpkin

Mt.Rainer on a unusually clear day, I was on the Buckley Tapps Hwy E. and Radke Rd. So Far it's the best view of the mountain I've found. The Mr. and I drove one evening to see if we could get a better view and it's all so heavily wooded in that area, that it's hard to to see beyond the trees.

There are many of these old dilapidated old farms, but with a certain nostalgic charm to them. This one is still functioning as a cow farm. It's been there for awhile, probably a family owned opperation. I've heard that in King county the building permits costs are huge and thats if they will allow what you want to do in the first place. The county has way to much power there and don't even get me started on the taxes. I drive by cute houses for sale and I used to wonder why they haven't sold...So I asked people, and now I know. It's sad.

Marris Farms, it's a kid frenzy there this time of year, The first thing I noticed when we went there the first time was the huge milk carton. I always wanted to go and get a picture of it. So this time it was pumpkin time and the corn maze was open, which a few people who emerged from the maze said keep to the right except when you can't and that's the secret. It takes about 30 minutes to go through.
But the draw for me that day was the gleeming orange globes a plenty in the fields, the contrast between the sunny skies and the brown earth and the pumpkins was a true fall flavor. Yes, the kids were screaming and some crying for what they wanted. But most were well behaved and busy trying to find the perfect pumpkin.

The goat walk, if you notice they are only fenced on the public side. They climb up there for a cup of grain or feed that you put in the cup and raise on the pulley system up to them on the ropes as seen in the picture.

The biggest Cornucopia I've ever seen.

The sun was warm, the sky was blue, and fall was in the air...Happy Halloween everyone.

Travel...Home~ Sweet ~Home

Well, we made it back home late last night. Back from our Washington trip.

While driving home I follow the Mr. in his Shoeing rig and we convoy both to and from, thus giving me the freedom to drive around the area while he's working and him having a vehicle to leave if he wants to go get something.
Well, on the way home last night I'm driving in my little Suzuki xl-7, (the car or SUV whatever it is) that I love, I almost met my maker. I'm not kidding, a big 18 wheeler almost took me out. I blared the horn along with several others but he just kept coming into my lane. I was in the fast lane at 70 MPH, trying to pass with a motor home in front of me and cars behind me, Literally no where to go but off the road. I rode the white line as best as I ,but, one slip or over reaction on my part and I know I would be no more. Prayer works! I'm living proof. My heart was pounding loudly, let me tell you.

I also have a big problem with those new blue headlamps in cars nowadays, I swear they are totally blinding to me, They hurt my eyes! My eyes water and physically feel pain from them. I never read anything about these from anyone else.
Am I the only one it bothers?
I think these could actually cause accidents. I see all the showy & sporty cars that the kids are driving are getting them, and they think they look cool, but, if they had someone in their review mirrors for about 30 minutes in pitch black highway driving with those lights they might, (if they had any concern for anyone other than themselves) reconsider their coolness.

I shopped at Fred Meyers in Sumner, WA. or maybe it's considered Bonnie Lake, I bought a cute blouse and a few other things like a birthday gift for my adopted mom. I diligently point out which items have the theft prevention tags on them and leave believing that she got them all. you guessed it, I'm sure, She left the one on my blouse, Grrrr, I hate that. Now, when I go to leave the theft detector buzzer goes off and she says "go ahead and go" I'm thinking its messed up and not working properly, WRONG, Luckily, we a have Fred Meyers with in 10 miles from home.
This happened once before to us and we were on vacation with no Fred Meyers in sight, a pair of pre-washed Levi's for the MR., We literally ripped a hole in them trying to get it off to wear them. We probably should have took them back and had them replace them, But we didn't.

Scary weather forecasts

This was our day today...Funnel clouds and all. The only thing that made it better was the Shiatsu massage this afternoon.
PDT FRI OCT 19 2007 ...POSSIBLE TORNADO NEAR HUBBARD EARLY THIS AFTERNOON... NEWS REPORTS INDICATE THAT A POSSIBLE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NEAR HUBBARD AROUND 130 PM THIS AFTERNOON...AND DESTROYED THREE GREEN HOUSES. THE AIR MASS OVER SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON IS VERY UNSTABLE THIS AFTERNOON IN THE WAKE OF A STRONG PACIFIC COLD FRONT THAT MOVED THROUGH EARLY TODAY. IN COMBINATION WITH THE STRONG JET STREAM OVER THE AREA...THIS PATTERN HAS BEEN A FAVORABLE ONE TO PRODUCE A FUNNEL CLOUD OR A TORNADO IN THE PAST. THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE OVER SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING...AND THE RISK OF A FUNNEL CLOUD WILL CONTINUE. THERE WILL LIKELY BE HEAVY SHOWERS AT TIMES THAT COULD CAUSE PONDING OF WATER FROM SLOW OR BLOCKED DRAINS DUE TO LEAVES THAT HAVE BEEN FALLING FROM TREES. SMALL HAIL IS ALSO LIKELY...AS WELL AS GUSTY WINDS TO NEAR 30 MPH...AND DEADLY LIGHTNING. BE SURE TO TAKE COVER SHOULD THREATENING WEATHER APPROACH YOUR LOCATION THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the worst of it and then Glorious Sunshine and a possible 70 degrees.

Salsa time

Last night we had company from the Castlerock, Washington area, family friends of mine prior to the Mr. but now good friends to him also. Rosie and Jerry are their names.
Jerry, an avid fisherman and hunter and food processor of smoked and canned foods, came down to give me lessons in only "The best darn Salsa Sauce" this side of the Mississippi.
It's so good that the Mr. hoards it when we get low, no kidding. We were down to the last jar and it was only a 1/4 full, we were having some eggs and toast for breakfast and he asks me "you really didn't want any of this salsa did you?" implying that he wanted it all for himself. I just snickered to myself, and said no.

Well, the salsa pro came down and walked through the recipe (Secret Tips) with me and now it has been passed to my hands to make and make merry with it. These are the best kind of recipes. The family kind.
We canned salsa until late hours of the night, I think we finished about midnight. 86 pints (33 pounds of tomatoes) of the stuff. and boy was I pooped when we got done. That's friggen hard work! But, I know all the secrets now.

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you."

I had just woke up, still in the morning blur half way awake and still not fully cognitive of the world around me...found myself sitting sipping coffee across the table from the Mr., He looks up and gives me that look like "Why are you starring at me?" thinking he had something on his face or was looking a little too scruffy this morning.
I was subconsciously thinking how much I love him and he caught me. I then was brought to full a stream of consciousness and remembered reading the cute kid quotes the other day on my friends blog and said "Can't you see my eyelashes fluttering? That means I Love You."
He said, in a cute, quick loving response, I was hoping it wasn't a twitch from me working a nerve. (Grinning all the while)
precious moments...

The Fall Classic Horseshow, My Pie social, and getting kicked to the curb at the Shilo Inn Hotel in Salem, Or.

It's quite the combination of topics in one blog, Do you agree?
Well, here goes...The NWSA Fall classic Horseshow was in nice attendance this year, lots of nice horses which is good to see. A few people were not there and were missed, Michelle mcFarlane of the Scripps Miramar Ranch for one, She loves my Pie Social and even told me so in person.(Sweet)
Jana Goldman, Bruce Dixon both of California just to name a few. We hope to see them up here again next year. The Mr. stayed busy as he wanted to be and sometimes a little more, only a few shoes thrown in the ring, that's always Good News!
We have some of the warmest and most kind people participating in our Saddlebred Show, Dick Boettcher a man always willing to give a warm hug hello, surprised me with 2 bonsai styled Alberta Spruce trees about 4.5-5 tall all trimmed to look like pom-poms. He did this out of the goodness of his heart, and to show me his appreciation for my hard work, He also loves my Blackberry pie-cobblers.
I gotta send him a note.
We went all out again this year and put up our decorations, our canopy for cover and lights all around. My theme this year was wine and roses, I decorated with reddish colored grape leaves and hanging artificial grapes. I had two huge hanging Ivy plants that I put silk roses in with the plant. It looked good. We serve coffee to anyone who wants it during the show, I bake most times and serve my Godiva liquor chocolate brownies and various cookies or cinnamon rolls also. I have a certain few who come by on a daily basis for goodie surfs.

My decor was evident to me but I would have had to tell everyone else for them to even notice I'm sure, But, oh well, it was fun.

The show was a success but we had rain and a chill in the air, we had a new class this year called the claiming class, I really don't know much about it other than it was to offer horses for sale at 7,500.00 or less.(A way for the amateur rider to get into the horses and show for minimal amounts of money) The horses perform in the ring with a rider, and the announcer said a little ditty about each one. I did become a little confused when the judge announced a winner of the class though. I was caught by surprise, I didn't know it was being judged. 6 participated in the event.
The Pie Social...My event, I fret over it like it was my own baby, Yet it takes so much more than what I contribute to it to make it work. There was some words over it even happening this year and a few select ladies went to bat for me and got it squared away. Hopefully it will not be the same fight next year. Thank you gals!

I turned out 32 pie styled cobblers this year, Everything from Apple to peach to pumpkin to raspberry and of course the ones I have reached my so called "Famous" status with my blackberry pies, not your average Blackberry but Himalayan Blackberry, they grow wild on our hilltop and you have a very hard time finding these for sale anywhere. They are the true Blackberries with all their sweetness and goodness, Thick with aroma. The Mr. picked 12 gallons of these from our farm this year just for this event.
I got a new stove just before this pie baking marathon this year and then preceded to wire in a 220 plug out in the shop for the other stove, Bonus, 2 ovens. Life was good. Each year I have done something smarter and made the task a little easier. I still make everything from scratch including my pie crusts and the filling are my own recipes both tried and true. I still stand on my feet for a good 16 hours to completion, but I had the daughter volunteer to help with some of the work this year, Much appreciated, I told her many times.

I got to serve the pies again this year, that's always fun, I get to see the many faces that have become friends over the years and many new faces too. I brought back in Toni Van Wyck to help serve, She was partially responsible for me doing this each year so I drag her back in and make her work too! Kidding, She was the show managers wife in charge of doing just said events when I got started, Sadly her husband Austin passed away a few years ago, But we still have her. Thank you Toni.

Now to my sore subject, The Hotel (http://www.shiloinns.com/oregon/salem.html.)...They actually didn't kick us to the curb, just to the lobby. They packed out belongings up on top of the suitcase and put it behind the lobby desk, unsecured. Without asking, without permission, and the room was being held by not 1 but 2 credit cards both private and corporate cards and both good for anything the hotel would charge.
Let me start with 2 days prior to our arrival, I call and confirm our stay and even tell them there will be a small dog. Everything's OK to this point, Then on the day we are supposed to check in the MR. goes and checks in but doesn't end up spending the night. The following day he goes to the room and brings in a suitcase, showers and takes a nap but doesn't return that night.
Now the third day, He doesn't go to the room at all but his suit case is still there and our room is still under the time block that I specifically called and confirmed.
The thing is we live within 45 minutes to the show, but, sometimes there is not enough time to go home and shower and change between shows, and sometimes we like to just stay there and not drive home so late. It serves as our dressing and resting room for 3 days during the show. It's a necessity for us, not just a convenience.

So I go to the Hotel Saturday evening to freshen up and try to use my key, Nothing the door won't open, I go to the desk and say my key won't work, She says what room? I say 304, She says oh, 304, I think what does that mean. I said I need to get in there our stuff is in there and we have it for another night. She says well we pulled your belongings, I said what??? Sure enough there was all the MR.s clothes and personal effects laying out in the open right behind the desk, Not in the suitcase mind you but in a wad on top. (I'm in total disbelief)
I can't begin to tell you how I felt at that moment, I had a whole gambit of emotions going on anything from anger to embarrassment, it was there.
My blood pressure surely took a hike that night, I felt my face become hot, This was totally wrong, by any way, shape, or form. What were they thinking? I sat down and wrote Shilo Inns main headquarters a little email and shared my experience.
Well, the following Monday morning I got a phone call from the very person who made the decision to pull our belongings and close out the room. She laid no claim to it though. I had made some tidal waves evidently. Headquarters ordered her to call an immediate meeting to discuss this matter. She told me this was to never happen again, even if its just a tooth brush in the room during a confirmed time frame. ...Just as it should have been all along right?
She also said she was going to send me a comp. night all of which I still haven't seen and probably won't. GRrrrrrrr, It should have been a comp. week for the aggravation and embarrassment she put me through! I am trying to let it go, But you know I've been treated better in a dive motel than this.
Unbelievable...

Happy Birthday to my Baby Sis

Saturday the 6th is her Birthday, My sage advice to her was live honestly, eat slowly, lie convincingly about her age.
I asked her to lunch, and I'd even buy, it still may happen, But she's having to find a new apt. due to the owners of her apt. now are making her move. We think it's because they are moving in a relative or selling the building. But 30 days is the time frame to find a place and dig up the cash for another first and last months rent plus deposits, It all sucks!
Still nobody in the permanent status BF wise, her Life has to start looking up soon. He is just around the corner and looking for her too! I know it.
Happy Birthday Baby Sis!
